Fermented food and drinks have always been around - each country has its own speciality. In India, some common fermented foods consumed by most households are yoghurt, pickles or kanji. Khimchi is popular in Korea while Sauerkraut is a staple in many German households.

Lately, the importance of fermented food for gut health has been getting a lot of traction. Fermented foods are a natural source of probiotics and can help populate your gut microbiota, resulting in various health benefits such as better digestion and a boost in immunity. The more variety of fermented food you eat, the more beneficial it is for your gut health.

Today, fermented foods from across the globe are locally made and easily available in most metro cities in India. One such brand that we happened to try is Odd Fellows Brews. They have a range of fermented drinks (Kombucha, Kefir and Tepache) and condiments (amazake mustard, sauerkraut, khimchi and chilli sauce).

Since these are all naturally fermented using age-old techniques, they do not require any added preservatives or artificial ingredients and usually last a while in the fridge just on the basis of traditional fermenting methods.

Naturally fermented drinks (like Kombucha, Tepache and ginger beer) are not only a great replacement to sodas, but also come with a host of benefits. The good bacteria found in these drinks improves gut health and boosts immunity - and we could all do with an immunity boost in the current times.

Their drinks have just the right amount of fizz and have become a #WFH staple on these hot summer days. We absolutely loved their Amazake Mustard Chutney- its a nice thick, grainy mustard that has been naturally fermented with Amazake - which is a Japanese sweet rice koji. It’s the perfect accompaniment to sandwiches. The sauerkraut and khimchi are really good too - we have added it to rolls, mixed it with hummus or just had a little on the side during dinner.

They deliver their products across Delhi/NCR. You can order through their Website or by messaging them on Instagram. Use the coupon code ‘CLEAN15’ for 15% off on your order!
