Nourishing Ayurvedic concoctions by Satmya

Capsule or pill in one hand, a glass of water in the other

In the current times, a lot of us have gone back to age-old remedies in the hope of boosting ones immunity. Apart from a daily dose of vitamin C, the good old desi Kadha (earlier saved for terrible colds/coughs) has become a regular feature for most of us. The popularity of Giloy has surged through the roof - everyone wants in on this powerful herb that is considered the ultimate immunity booster. Chyawanprash - which was earlier typically given to growing children in the winters- has become a kitchen staple through the year for children and adults alike. All these things are definitely beneficial when taken in the right proportion and quantity - remember, too much of anything is never good.

We recently discovered Satmya - a brand that seems to have been born in the midst of the pandemic when people needed these ancient Ayurvedic concoctions the most. Satmya has a range of ancient Indian blends and brews that aim to nourish your body from within. All the ingredients for their products are organic and sourced from the founder’s farm - the products are made in small batches based on recipes that have been passed on through generations.

We tried the NeemGiloy Brew and the Chyawanprash.

The NeemGiloy Brew is a blend of Giloy leaves and stems, Parijat leaves, and Shyama Tulsi. It doesn’t contain neem leaves (which would add an element of bitterness) but instead is made with Giloy that is grown around an old neem tree.

This has become an evening staple for us - it has a nice earthy flavour and aroma. In Sanskrit, Giloy is called ‘Amrita or the ‘root of immortality’, and is definitely something one should try and consume on a regular basis. We have tried regular Giloy tea (just crushed giloy stems boiled in water), and while that is, of course, a potent way to consume giloy, it’s really bitter and not something you can leisurely sip on in the evening. This brew is a great replacement to any herbal or green tea and is packed with health benefits of all the powerful herbs in it.

This Chyawanprash is actually quite delicious! It’s made using 48 potent ingredients including Amla, A2 ghee, mishri, honey and a blend of herbs. It does not have any refined sugar (which most commercial brands do).

Chyawanprash is considered Ayurveda’s key rasayana due to its properties of enhancing memory, strength and immunity and overall health and wellbeing - it is aptly often referred to as the elixir of life. We always thought Chyawanprash is something to eat in the winters - but the founder of Satmya strongly believes that their version (which is made using the traditional Ayurvedic recipe with all 48 potent ingredients) can be consumed throughout the year. We have also been given to understand that as long as you don’t have any serious digestion/ gastro issues (Chyawanprash is generally considered heavy to digest), it is completely fine, and in fact advisable, to have traditionally made Chyawanprash on a regular basis -preferably in the first half of the day. We have happily been following their advice and consuming a spoonful of this every morning, even in this hot weather. It’s a great way to start the day.

If you’re looking for excellent quality traditional Ayurvedic immunity-boosters, Satmya is your best bet. Their products are organic, made in small batches, and minus any preservatives or artificial ingredients. We also love the fact that the brand is completely sustainable - from the way they procure their ingredients from their own farm to their beautiful, plastic-free packaging.

You can order their products through the Satmya Website. Don’t forget to use this exclusive discount code- ‘CleanOrigins15’ for 15% off on your order!
