Say hello to this all-natural probiotic drink- Kanji!
Kanji is an ancient Indian drink that is traditionally made by naturally fermenting seasonal black carrots and/ or beetroot with water, mustard and green chillies. The benefits of this drink are magnanimous – it keeps your gut healthy, is a great source of vitamin A and C and is also considered to be an anti-carcinogen. It’s supposed to be fairly straight-forward to make at home – and you’ll find this available in most North Indian homes during the black carrot season. Just google ‘carrot kanji’ and you’ll find plenty of recipes online!
However, if you’re reluctant chefs like us, try the one by I Say Organic! They use normal carrots and not black carrots though. It’s as good as the homemade version and has the added benefit of being completely organic! They also do a beetroot version.
