Start your year by saying NO to plastic!
“Co-existence is not just an option, it is the ONLY OPTION. Plastic is creating its own planet which does not have a place for life.”
Mr. Biplab Dutta, Co-founder of Almitra Sustainables
Plastic has become ingrained in our lives in such a massive way that it becomes hard to completely eliminate it. The best way to start is to refuse the use of plastic products that aren’t really necessary (like plastic cutlery) and then to gradually find and use sustainable alternatives to everyday items – like toothbrushes.
The good people at Almitra Sustainables are on an urgent mission to completely eliminate the further use of plastic. Almitra Sustainables is founded by a couple that has eliminated plastic from their own lives, and want to encourage as many people to follow their lead. To make it slightly easier for the rest of us, they have created a platform where they sell a range of eco-friendly, sustainable products for everyday use. All these products are competitively priced in order to encourage maximum number of people to make the switch to earth-friendly alternatives. We tried their steel straws and bamboo toothbrushes.
Refusing plastic straws should be the first thing one does in the journey of limiting their use of plastic. Plastic straws are literally the most unnecessary piece of single-use plastic that we’ve been infusing into our oceans and landfills. For most of us, plastic straws are more of an accessory than a necessity. Refusing to use a plastic straw is a small but significant step one can take to help save the environment. One could either avoid using straws altogether or try out the many sustainable options out there- like steel, bamboo or paper.
So we tried the foodgrade, stainless-steel, reusable straws by Almitra Sustainables.
They come in a handy cloth pouch and are accompanied with a straw cleaner. We like the fact that these steel straws are easy to clean, can be carried wherever you go and can be used over and over again. Plus they’re affordably priced– a single steel straw with a cleaner and pouch is priced at Rs. 130. Almitra Sustainables also has a range of other sustainable alternatives like reusable Copper and Bamboo straws. We loved sipping on some fresh coconut water with these straws!
So go ahead and explore what they have- it’s time we all make the switch and ditch the plastic straw.
Toothbrushes are unavoidable – they’re necessary to maintain basic dental hygiene. Dentists recommend changing your toothbrush every 3 months – so that clearly adds up to an alarming amount of plastic toothbrushes clogging our oceans. Bamboo toothbrushes are great substitutes to the usual plastic ones.
We have been using these toothbrushes regularly with our favourite organic toothpowder – Chamkeela by Raw Beauty. (You can see our work of art using Chamkeela in the picture below 😉). With this super combination, you can start and end your day on a healthy and sustainable note!
Let’s all start this year by being a little more earth conscious, one step at a time.
