100 Times Washed Ghee or ‘Shata Dhauta Ghrita’

It’s time to introduce 100 Times Washed Ghee or ‘Shata Dhauta Ghrita’ to your life! ‘Shata Dhauta Ghrita’ is an ancient Ayurvedic concoction which literally translates to ghee washed a hundred times- and that is exactly how this miracle cream is made. Traditionally, ghee is placed in a copper vessel and “washed” with distilled water repeatedly – preferably a hundred times. The ghee expands to a soufflé like consistency and works as a great moisturizer. This all-natural moisturiser is said to penetrate into all seven layers of your skin.

It’s a fascinating but time-consuming process to make Shata Dhauta Ghrita. There is a great DIY video by a beauty-blogger (Utkarshini Khanna) that gives a step-by-step guide on how to make this at home, with tips to make sure you get it right. If you’re in an adventurous mood, then you can follow the video given here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t7KE9_Yzhmo&t=6s  and attempt making this at home!

As for us, we tried the 100 times washed ghee painstakingly prepared by Instaglam. This all-natural moisturizer is infused with various essential oils (depending on the condition of your skin) and is non-greasy, absorbs into your skin almost instantly and even smells nice. The one we tried is for dull, dehydrated and rough skin. It contains washed ghee infused with saffron, lemon, sweet almond, sandalwood and rose. There is a really faint whiff of ghee, but mostly it smells of a mix of essential oils. We usually use this at night before sleeping, only to avoid the occasional whiff of ghee during the day. It’s the most natural way to get glowing, healthy skin. We’ve been using this for a month now and intend to make this our permanent go-to moisturiser!
